At the end of February, we drove down to Moapa Valley with a group of other St. George home school families to visit this fantastic petting zoo. Set in the outskirts of a podunk desert town not exceeding a population of 500, this place was surreal! They boasted at least fifty species, and a population of probably more than 300 animals, many of which we were able to pet and feed. The zookeeper made sure each child got a turn with each animal that she took out, and some got two turns. She taught us about the animals and patiently answered questions. My personal favorite was when we went into the kangaroo enclosure and were allowed to pet the animals there: there were about twenty kangaroos, and two or three other species, whose names I've forgotten. This was so much fun for all of us, especially for Paul, my little zoologist!
