One of the things the kids really loved in public school was read-a-thons. There were usually come cool snacks involved, and the kids were free to wear pjs and bring pillows to lounge on while they read. Since we've started home school, we have only done a few. I like to save them as a special treat for when I'm out of energy. It's the best thing ever. The kids are like, "yay! We don't have to learn today!" And I'm like, "bwahahaha."
Our read-a-thons feature awesome forts that the kids make themselves. They are free to read anything aloud, or their assigned classic or any non-fiction book to themselves. Isaiah and Paul are not technically readers, but don't tell them that! The girls wanted a fort of their own, so they were smart enough to build one for the boys, first.
