Politics
There is no president, chief or king. But there is a queen.
Her majesty lives on the Island of Serpa, the humongous rainforest. Her name is
Annabelle for “Anna beauty”. But she goes by Anna. Queen Anna has the magical powers
of growing. When any plants die, the
Queen just says a magic spell and they are beautiful as ever. She has a son,
James who is air to the throne. Anna also has 3 daughters: Lisa, Laura, and
Lucy. Anna has two boys after that: Jason, and Johnny. Her name goes far among
her subjects as very tender hearted. She makes the laws, so the punishments are
unusual. The police are gingerbread and they know everything. If you dis obey a
law, they will hunt you down, arrest you, and make you eat bugs. The worse the
crime, the more disgusting the bugs. Some of the laws are:
-no eating the policemen
-no lying, stealing, or robbing
-Love your enemies

Sports
Pearl toss
The mermaids like to play this every year at the carnival.
Three mermaids stand opposite the player, each holding a shell. The player is
given a pearl to play. The goal is to land the pearl in one of the shells pearl,
by tossing it toward the mermaids. If you win, you get to go home with a pearl.
Fruit fight
Pick soft fruit. Spit up into teams. Throw fruit at you’re
opponents. The goal is to knock your opponents down. The winning team gets to
start the next game.
Pom smash
This sport is exactly like baseball, except with
pomegranates. If a pomegranate is smashed, the person who did it gets to lick
it off his bat.
[There are many other sports in the island that are not
mentioned for the sake of time]
Arts
Sculpting
The fairies like to sculpt using clay dug up from the
ground, making statues, furniture, toys, and many other things. The creations
are then set in one of the hottest places in the forests to bake in the sun.
Then they are taken to Pixie stores and sold.
Weaving
The Mermaids collect sea grasses and then, using a special
pattern, weave them into baskets, hammocks, and hats. The Mermen also hunt down
the giant clam species and make their shells into beds. There are about 6,465
giant clams around Sun Sands today.
Religion
The mermaids [and mermen] have underwater ceremonies where
they sing and wrap seaweed around themselves. They give little gifts to each
other and give talks about how they can be better [mere] people. They believe
in peace and forgiveness. Their religion is called Peacists. They like hippies!
The fairies and natives have their church in the hollowed
out trees near their homes. They are kind of like pagans. They believe in
taking good care of the earth, no matter what. They do not worship the earth, but they can
talk to all the creatures of the islands, which makes it easier to love the
islands. Their religion is called Earthians.
Population
1. Mermaids [and mermen]
The Mermaids live underwater mostly but can dry off enough for their
tails to turn into legs. The only way to tell a [dried off] merperson from a
person is merpeople are all born with a little shape of a starfish or a shell
depending on if they are a boy or a girl on their foreheads. They are friendly,
but shy. They feed mostly on oysters, smoothies,[made from the fruit trees on
the beach near their homes in the sea,] and edible [and tasty] things in the
sea.[such as sea berries.] About 5,000.
2. Fairies [and sparrow-men]
These small clear winged pixies are everywhere in the forests and love
the meadows. The girls are called fairies and the boys are called sparrow-men.
When mentioning both, they are pixies. They live in hallowed out mushrooms.
These kind of mushrooms are called ladybug mushrooms.
They are poisonous to eat, keeping the fairies and sparrow-men safe from hungry
herbivorous animals. Their clothes and shoes are made from flower petals or
leaves, sometimes both. Instead of a fresh outfit they put on a new, fresh leaf
each day. Each pixie has a different design on their wings as well as different
groups of fairies with the same talents. They mostly rely on mouse milk, nuts,
honey, and fruit to eat. They are very easy to spot on sunny days. Pixies can’t
fly with wet wings. Their only predator is the hawk. They are very frank,
friendly, sparkly [with pixie dust] and smart.
3. Natives
These people have all kinds of personalities. They have their own way,
culture, celebrations, rules, customs, and traditions. On the Island of boomahoma[
palm for the home of the big boom] there is a part of the island(Amanas )that
is named after the famous pineapple farms along the coast in Latin. Some are
earthians and some don’t have a religion. Others are Mormons. They live
everywhere in the islands. The traditional clothes is a thick grass skirt and a
(modest) orange cloth shirt. For boys, it’s a pair of shorts (for men pants)
and a blue Hawaiian shirt. Instead of pools they can just jump in the sea. To
avoid sharks, there is an iron wall around the islands. It is invisible to
sharks and other dangerous ocean animals. The natives live in white stucco
houses with all colors of roofs. Most palm people live on the beaches.
Animals
There
are many tropical animals on the palm Islands Including: Leopards,
frogs, monkeys, and lizards in the rain forests of pardus, nepo, and serpa,
crabs, parrots, and turtles on the
beaches of sun sands, Anasa, and the whole palms Island itself, and in the
waters throughout kakina and serpa dolphins that you can ride on and also many,
many, clownfish. There is also a special kind of seaweed that if you eat it,
you can breathe underwater with the merpeople. Unicorns live in the candy
forests in sun sands, and palm Island. Here is a map of the Island chain.
Celebrations
The Queen’s Birthday
On
April 24th, all the creatures of the land celebrate the birthdate of
the queen. The blow up thousands of
balloons a week in advance and then at three o’clock they release them into the
sky and sing “Happy Birthday.” Then,
afterwards, there is a great banquet and then a gigantic cake. It’s a different flavor each year.
National
Ice Cream Day
No
one knows how, but on May 16, when everybody wakes up in the morning, there’s a
giant ice cream sundae and the middle of the town. Everyone puts on their warmest clothes and
goes outside with a spoon. There is a
gigantic ladder that everyone climbs up one at a time, and then jumps in. The ice cream is too deep for the babies, so
they eat regular-size ice cream
Sea
Weed Day
July
5 everyone goes on the underground tube to Sunsands and goes to a special bush
of seaweed and eats some of it. This special
seaweed can make them breathe underwater so they can swim with the mermaids. Then everyone goes up on the shore,
including the mermaids, because they can dry off their tails to make them turn
into legs, and looks for shells for their collections
Sinking
Day
This
independence holiday is in honor of the battle of the mysterious. Long ago,
there was another Island near the palm Islands. This Island used to be a friend
of the palm people.
But then there was contention and commotion between the Islands and then that
led to a battle. The palm Islands won and as soon as the battle was over, the
mysterious Island which has no other
history, sank! No one knows were the people went. Even the mermaids and mermen could
find no trace. Today they celebrate their victory by tossing unused objects
into the sea and watching them sink. At the end of the day, there are popsicles and fireworks.

Eliza, you have such a great imagination! I love all your tiny details that make up such a rich picture of what it's like on the Palm Islands. I feel like I just took a vacation day. I especially love the idea of merpeople being able to morph into regular people. And forcing people to eat bugs as a punishment! Now, why didn't I ever think of that? :)
