The Land of Thypothesis

The Dwarves of Thipothesis
The population of dwarves in Dwarf Forest is very, very big.  5,000 dwarves live there.  Most of them live in trees or caves, spread over the entire forest.  They love hunting and know tons about fishing.  They fish out of small streams in the forest.  Surprisingly, the small streams have tons and tons of fish.  They hunt bears, deer, and also rabbits.  By the way, the rabbits are really big for rabbits.  The dwarves like to go across the White Mountains into the big lake.  Sometimes they even go to the Muddy Explosion.  Each time they go, they try to conquer the great serpent who lives there.  If they got that serpent, they could use its teeth for spearheads and they could use its skin for clothing.  They could also eat it.
The dwarves are three feet high, which is about up to my chin.  The respected dwarves usually use animal skins, such as bear skins, for clothing.  Everyone else wears deer skins, except the children, who wear rabbit skins.  The male dwarves usually have short, stubby beards, and most of the female have long hair down to their knees.  The females usually go out in the daytime with the children to collect fruit while the males are hunting.
The dwarf king has a longer beard than all of the other male dwarves.  Unlike most kings, he is not very rich.  But he is rich in wisdom.  He is very honored in Dwarf Forest.  Fairies and dwarves travel to him from all around to ask him questions.  The dwarves and the fairies are enemies, so they’re constantly attacking each other.  There’s an old family feud, and they hate each other for no good reason.  The dwarves have especially made for fighting fairies.  They have poison darts that, if it hits a fairy, she will immediately fall asleep.  Then they take the fairies prisoners.
The dwarf females like to make huge tapestries for the caves that they live in.  They’re very beautiful tapestries.  They show that family’s history.  Sometimes they show wars or peaceful times (but mostly wars.)  They show the great deeds that their ancestors have done.  The more of these tapestries these dwarves have on their cave walls, the more respected they are.  The dwarves like to tame bears, and they usually have an audience.  They have an arena that is pretty big in the center of the forest.  Usually, all the dwarves come.  And if not, then there are only a few seats empty.  The dwarves, to keep from being eaten, they have a club, and if the bear tries to get them, they just hit the bear with it.  But sometimes the dwarves get eaten.  It’s kind of like the gladiatorial games.  The audience likes it when the bears eat the dwarves, and they don’t like it as much when the dwarf bops the bear on the head.
The dwarves’ religion is pretty simple.  They worship two gods.  One god is names Songu, and the other god is named Tepes, and she’s actually a goddess.  Songu is the god of war and peace.  Tepis is the goddess of love and beauty.  The dwarves sacrifice thousands of beetles at a time.  Sometimes they mush them with a rock and sometimes they burn them with fire.  They think that this pleases their gods because beetles are actually a holy animal to them, so it’s a really big sacrifice.

There are also fairies.  There are 4,000 of them.  The fairies live near the White Waterfall.  They all live together in a dwarf-carved cave in the mountain.  The cave is very bright.  It has beautiful crystals everywhere, except for the ground.  To make the crystals glow to make light in the cave, they put a special kind of plant that grows in the land inside the hollow part of the crystal, and the plant glows.    The fairies hired the dwarves to carve the cave in the mountain a long time ago, even before the family feud.  They paid them with the glowing plant that goes in the crystals.  The dwarves need this because they don’t have a light source.  Fairies use their fairy dues for magic and things.  The fairy dust comes from the lake.  It actually starts as rocks that they grind up into fairy dust.
This is dwarves’ history:  It starts with a man named Jack who comes with his family to the continent then known as Thisis.  People were just starting settle in Thisis, so the man hardly ever saw anyone except for his family and friends who came.  He married a short little woman known as Mary.  From then on, the men of his posterity always chose short women because it was traditional.  Then they evolved into dwarves.  And that’s how the dwarf population started.  The guy who named the island Thisis, named it after himself, but his full name was was Thipothesis, and so after his death, people began to call it Thipothesis instead.  The dwarves had 167 years of peace until the fairies came along.

The Fairies of Thipothesis
The fairies’ queen is extremely beautiful and graceful, but you can make her mad very easily.  She lives in a splendid, but small, castle in the cave.  The queen likes the crystals in the cave very much.  She spends an hour of her day to look at them, and admire them.  She has a pet potato bug.  The potato bug is not black, because she painted its back with beautiful patterns.  The potato bug is kind of like a dog to her.  Most fairies don’t have potato bugs, because they are very rare in Thipothesis.  Usually when you think of fairies you think of females, and usually when you think of dwarves you think of males.  The male fairies are taught to dodge the dwarves’ darts.  (But sometimes, they’re not very good at it.)
Flower Week is the first week of spring. Fairies celebrate it, because their specialty is spring.  It’s quite a long celebration, but it’s a very fun one.  On Flower Week the fairies like to dance and sing.  As part of the celebration, they do a talent show.  Most of the fairies do stuff like singing and dancing, but sometimes, they do a play for the talent show.  They also like to mouse race on flower week, and they like to collect flowers and scatter them all over the cave.  They also have berry fights. And that’s what they do on flower week.  The queen makes everyone celebrate her birthday.  She makes everyone bring her presents, and she has to have special rooms full of presents.  On Queen Day she invites everyone to a big party, and if they don’t come, she will make them come anyway.  She tries to make herself feel really, really special.  All the games are pretty much just for her, so she has a special lever, so if someone is going to win the game, she pulls the lever, and it makes her win somehow.
To defend themselves, fairies have special shields that cover their whole body that wrap around.  There are two little eye wholes for them to look through that the darts cannot reach because they’re so small.  It’s made out of a hollowed out stick.
The fairies also worship two gods.  Darkengof is a god of peace, and Slemeh is a goddess.
This is the fairies’ history: The fairies came to Thipothesis because the place they lived in (Alaska) was getting too cold.  When the dwarves saw the fairies, they thought they were coming to attack.  So they got their bows and started shooting arrows at the fairies.  The fairies were threatened, even though not one of them was killed or even hurt.  So they moved in and the fairies and dwarves became sworn enemies.

Thipothesis seems like a really cool place to live! I wouldn't want to be stuck between the dwarves and the fairies, though! And your self-centered fairy queen makes me laugh. If I were a queen I think I'd make people celebrate my birthday and let me win all the games, too. I like the idea of the dwarf women weaving tapestries of their history, too. What a great writing project. Good job, Naomi!
